Damn, discovering the literature study side of booktube really made me regret not studying literature and trying to study computer science instead. But then most of my reading in high school was Forgotten Realms tie in novels, Discworld novels and Warhammer/Warhammer 40,000 novels and other fantasy and sci-fi. I think I've read 11/64 of mandatory readings for literature classes in High School. But then mandatory reading list is for Polish high school is horribly dull. American high school reading list seems to be much more tolerable.
Also, I have crippling social anxiety due to abuse toxic primary school and one year of toxic private high school, so I wouldn't be able to do teaching and stuff. Not that I managed to finish computer science college. Got burned out with all the dry tech stuff XD .

Okay, now I think I really have to read Plato´s Republic. I´m studying music pedagogy and Plato has just the nicest quotes about music and its meaning for and influence on people that extends way beyond music itself. Which is really ironic if music didn´t have a place in his ideal society 😀

Master's in literature here…love to hear you so excited for the adventure!!
laura arias says
I'm currently studying something similar, I'm studying linguistic but it is in spanish cuz I am from colombia, however I have almost the same subjects and topics as you and I love it.
Jeremiah Handlon says
We need a year three video when you get to that point
Virginia Campbell says
I just started House of Leaves and I'm so excited, can't wait for it to fuck me up 🙂
Latoya Bolt says
Hey, Emmie. As you speak I am reliving my diploma and degree days. I loved the linguistic course that go didn't like. 😅 My diploma is in Secondary Education in English and Literature. My degree in Language and Literacy. I enjoyed all I studied. Your video was all the things I loved about my teachers college days. ❤
Rosalie Picard says
As a (psychology and) linguistics student, the pain of the linguistics course was hilarious.
Valeria Tarasova says
I’d love to see a video about critical theory💗

😍

House of Leaves was terrifying! I remember reading it and feeling true terror
Charlotte says
I honestly don’t think I would ever be able to take the “deformed space + time” class. Anything having to do with space and the passage of time is probably my biggest and worst anxiety/panic disorder trigger, so this class sounds terrifying haha
Jess Ruff says
Please make videos about books you read for the classical studies sides of your degree 🙂
Denise Freitas says
Your channel is so amazing!

Her videos are like tea in a double walled glass cup, with gold sunshine passing through it. @* e m m i e *

Yes! Just graduated 2 years ago at age 51 with a degree in English Literature and a minor in Women and Gender studies. As much as I love to read and write (I write poetry) it was intense. The hardest for me was the language class also but I loved learning how the English language evolved. Thanks for sharing. Love your content.
Lilli Feldeborn says
I feel like i learned so much from this video😳 it was so interesting! Thank you!!!

plato!! i read the republic in high school but i also studied his theories at uni this year! did you do the russian formalists too? their ideas on language and literature were fascinating! they were the introduction to new criticism.
i love watching this type of videos, it's so amazing how different uni courses are all over the world! and i'm always nosy on what peoplke have to read and study 🙂
i plan on filming a video myself about everything i've read in my first year of uni too!

Could you please share the university you're studying at? In educational purposes only! I'm currently weight down by the difficulty of deciding what my next steps are going to be; and since I love literature, writing AND you — it's hard to figure out what I love most though — I could really use your advice if you wouldn't mind it! Thank you.
Rabin Raie says
I have a master degree in English literature and I don't remember much of what books and subjects I read. 😁 But I do remember loving discussing the theories and criticism which I still do.
meningherme says
It sounds like Plato predicted fake news

The Yellow Wallpaper is my FAVORITE short story. Love it so much.
TELIOV says
Lovely! I study english too and I confirm that it is one of the best things I have done in my life. It is so funny that I dont enjoy courses that are linguistics related as well; they make so confused. Maybe because we integrate french and arabic too since english is my third language. I loved how you talked about criticism. I have not reached that stage yet, but now I feel super excited to explore this field. thank you again. I was just revising for my exams, and then opened your video; i feel motivated heheh. Thank you, miss! keep doing what you love. I congratulate you that your passion has reached many people here including myself.

As someone who did horrible in school and missed out on college, I really enjoy these videos. Makes me wonder what I could've been learning had I just showed up to class.
David Wiley says
I majored in English and then got a Master's in English after that. Lots and lots of reading. Nothing more intense for reading than my semester of Victorian lit…those were some BIG books…but some of my favorites such as Jane Eyre and Middlemarch!
Long time watcher here, first time commenter! Your channel's size intimidates me, but I can't get enough of your content!
I really, really need to reread Neuromancer! It didn't click with me when I read it the first time but I imagine it would jive better now that I am older (but not wiser!)
Laura Bollin says
I thought it was so interesting to see you struggle with linguistics as someone who’s more of a literature student since the roles were reversed for me, as I came from a linguistics study and took some literature courses. Those took me out not gonna lie. 🙂
Caitlyn Salter says
I love this so much! (I say like I don't love all your videos) But this is particularly relevant for me because I'm trying to decide what I want to study when I finish school (next July!!). I'm leaning heavily towards English Literature (or you know, one of the other many names for it) I don't 100% know, but this definitely made me want to more!! I would love to see you talk more about your degree, for hours at a time hahaha
Tabitha says
I wonder what philosophers our age will be coming up with? The pandemic I feel like has been the closest to having as much time on our hands as Plato did to try and condemn all literal means of communication just because they don't spawn a physical thing omg.
Eric Fraenkel says
Emmie. I enjoy very much watching your videos. And getting inspired by your readings.
Could you do one piece where you teach us your reading techniques, what do you annotate in your books and the stickers you put, what do they mean, I would be fascinated to learn more.
Stay well.
Akanksha Tirkey says
I'm a Research Scholar in English and lately have been feeling extremely detached from Reading , I keep procrastinating about reading my notes or reading anything but your videos have encouraged me a lot to get back on my horse . A genuine Thankyou !!! , you consistently have been my guide .
