[Sample Answer]
Q1
Well, it is absolutely important to learn about other cultures. The more we learn about other cultures, the less misunderstanding we can get. Let me tell you about my experience. Back in college, one of my classmates was from Morocco. He was a really good person so I wanted to hang out with him. One day, we were supposed to meet at a barbeque restaurant. I just wanted to drink beer and some pork with him because the place specialized in pork. But all of sudden, he got upset. At first, I freaked out because I had no idea why he got upset. But I found out he was Muslim. If I knew about the culture, things might have been different.
Q2
In the reading passage, it says the university choir will add competitive events at other locations to its schedule. This is because it’ll make a better quality of the choir’s performance and it can strengthen the reputation of the school’s music program. On top of that, the man in the conversation agrees with it for the following two reasons. First, this will be a great motivation for singers in the choir. To be specific, because other schools’ choirs are good, it is enough to make them more competitive by practicing a lot. Second, it’ll provide a positive effect. To be more specific, if a lot of students listen to them, they would probably choose to come to the university and join the program.
Q3
According to the reading passage, the original purpose for the behavior of animals may have disappeared long ago. These behaviors are known as relict behaviors. On top of that, in the biology class, the professor explains it by using an example. Pronghorn lives on open fields in western hemisphere. It is very fast because when its predators show up, it can run away quickly. There was a reason why they were so fast back in the day. Lions also lived there and they chased pronghorns. Lions were as fast as pronghorns, so the speed of pronghorns was essential to survive. Now, the lions were extinct, but pronghorns’ speed still has remained.
Q4
In the business class, the professor explains how the characteristics of target customers influence marketing strategy for products. The first one is age. For example, if a company makes toy cars, it focuses on kids. It creates commercials on TV during the time kids watch TV. Because of this strategy, the company wants kids to buy toy cars. The other one is geographical location. For instance, if a company wants to sell boats, it focuses on people who live along the ocean and lakes. And it advertises in cities and neighborhoods that are near the ocean and lakes. Through this advertisement, the company wants customers to buy boats.
