The reading passage and the lecturer are both about invasive species which is define as species that are not natural in the local environment.
In the lecture the author claims that aquatic zebra mussel is causing havoc in America’s waterway. In addition to this, the reading passage states that the zebra mussel has been introduced into several locations of North America from Russia, through ship’s hulls, and once in the lakes, the population of aquatic zebra mussel is damaging the pipe system of the costal areas. Moreover, zebra mussel not only does damage reproduction sites of water species but also it does not have natural enemies, therefore it is reproducing massively. All that, it is causing problems in the local environment and make the mussel hard to eliminate. If that was not enough, scientists do not know a way to eliminate the aquatic zebra mussel in an environmental friendly way.
In a similar way, the lecturer claims that the aquatic zebra mussel is causing a lot of damage at the environment, and also that it is really costly. Nevertheless, she disagrees that there are not solutions to tackle this problem. First of all, the lecturer mentions that the water from foreign boats could be decontaminated before being released into America water system, furthermore, she mentions that all the parts of the boat that could get in contact with the water should be decontaminated. Secondly, the speaker mentions that the aquatic zebra mussel has natural depredators that can be used to eliminate the mussel such us birds or crokets. The lecturer recomends to introduce these species into America water systems to deminish and control the spread of the aquatic zebra mussel.

From the passage it can be inferred that the aquatic zebra mussels is one of the species that is causing numerous problems in American's water way.The professor being pessimistic proffered some solution to these problems.
First, since the mussels attach themselves on the bottom of the boats and water pipes,the professor offered that the ships be sterilised with sea water as mussels don't survive in sea water. The ships also should be properly supervised.
From the passage,zebra mussels have very few natural enemies which means it's difficult to eliminate them once they are established in the river or lake but the professor does not agree with this. She offered that some species prey on the mussels and they should be introduced to the affected rivers and lakes .

Both the reading passage and the lecture are about invasion of Great Lakes and other American lakes by zebra mussels. The reading passage states that there are no natural ways to prevent their invasion, but the lecturer proposes two methods to navigate this problem which she states is causing billion of dollars damages.
First, the reading passage suggests that zebra mussels are native to Russia, but traveled to the Great Lakes and other rivers, by attaching themselves to the bottom of the boats and water pipes. The lecturer on the other hand, acknowledges the fact that they traveled from Russia, but she proposes the method of decontamination, in order to prevent zebra mussels hitchhiking to boats. This is done by contaminating the bottom of the boats by sterilizing them with water. She further explains that zebra mussels can live for some days without water such as in anchor chains, therefore they should also be contaminated to prohibit their hitchhiking.
Moreover, the reading says that zebra mussels have very few natural enemies to eliminate them, so they need to discover an environmentally-safe way to kill them. Nevertheless, the lecturer claims that there are some species that feed themselves with zebra mussels, – birds, fish and ducks such as sturgeon and crock, yet there are not enough in number to control their expansion, so she proposes that these species to be introduced in great numbers to prevent their further expansion.
