What is IELTS?
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English language skills around the world.

Who owns IELTS?
IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL).

How many candidates appear in IELTS exams internationally in a year?
Conducting tests one million candidates globally, IELTS is the world’s most popular English testing system.

Which kind of organizations accept IELTS?
IELTS is accepted by more than 6000 organizations internationally. These include universities, immigration departments, government agencies, professional bodies and multinational companies.

Who writes the test?
Global writers contribute to IELTS test materials. Tests are written from different English-speaking countries with reflections of real-life situations.

How many versions of the tests are there?
Two, Academic and General.

Who is the Academic Training version of the test for?
The Academic test is for those who want to study in an English-speaking country.

What is the General Training version of test?
The General Training test is for those who want to do work practice/experience or training programs or migrate to an English-speaking country.

What is the difference between the tests?
All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests are different.

Which version should I do?
You should contact the organization or institution to which you are applying to find out what they require.

What is the test format and how long will it take?’
The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes and the IELTS has following four parts:
Listening (30 minutes)
Reading (60 minutes)
Writing (60 minutes)
Speaking (11–14 minutes).

Are all the tests on the same day and same sitting?
The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. However, the Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.

Is there any help available for disabled candidates?
Yes, disabled candidates with needs are catered. In order to get the required arrangements candidates are supposed to inform centers, three months prior to tests.

When can the IELTS test be taken?
IELTS is available on 48 fixed dates a year – up to four times a month. (Approximately)

How much does it cost?
Contact your local test centers.

What if I need to postpone or cancel my application?
An administration charge is deducted from the fee paid. If the test is postponed or canceled application more than 5 weeks before the test date.
If the test is postponed or canceled within 5 weeks of the test date, the full fee is charged.
