– Why did Saskia score 8.0 in pronunciation? ⤵️
We felt at the time that her stress of the word ‘advertisement’ did not follow the two standard phonetic (dictionary) ways to stress this word. We appreciate that this may be a common way for South Asian speakers to pronounce this word and, in a real IELTS test, it’s very possible Saskia would score the full 9.0. This video is to highlight the importance of the band descriptors, and to demonstrate to learners how to use natural, fluent language with excellent grammatical control and a wide range of lexis.
– Why is it 8.5 and not 8.75? ⤵️
The average 8.75 is rounded down in IELTS writing.
